Roos Season Ends in Loss

SHERMAN – Trinity quarterback Blake Barmore tossed three first quarter touchdowns as the No. 15-ranked Tigers took a 21-0 lead in the opening frame and never looked back, topping Austin College 41-13 in the ’Roos Homecoming game.  Austin College finished the season with a record of 4-6 overall, including a 2-5 mark in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Trinity got the scoring started with 9:15 left in the first when Barmore found Chris Coleman for an 11-yard touchdown, and less than four minutes later the Tigers needed only three plays and 1:12 to march 73 yards with Barmore throwing a 13-yard score to Michael Tomlin.  The key play on the drive came on a 64-yard completion from Barmore to Coleman.

The third score of the quarter came with 1:25 left on another 13-yard pass from Barmore, this time to running back Chris Baer to cap off an eight play, 62 yard drive.

The ’Roos finally got on the board with 5:54 left in the first half, after the Austin College defense forced the first Trinity punt of the game and Matt Orr broke through the line to block the punt and recover at the Trinity 12-yard line.  Four plays later Ryan Cowley went three yards around the right side for the touchdown, but the point after failed to make it a 21-6 game.

However, Trinity took the next possession and went 88-yards in 16 plays culminating in Barmore plunging in from a yard out to make it 28-6 with 19 seconds left in the half.

Austin College tacked on a score early in the fourth quarter on a 16-play, 70-yard drive lasting 6:15 when Kent Bell threw a fade to Eric Shon from 23 yards out for the touchdown, making the final score 41-13.
