Sul Ross State Women 40

The Austin College women's basketball team used balanced scoring and an excellent defensive performance to defeat Sul Ross State University 62-40 Thursday night in Hughey Gym.  The Lady 'Roos improved to 3-1 (2-1 in conference) for the season, while Sul Ross dropped to 1-3 (1-2).

Raney Bauer and Andrea Bauer (pictured) each scored 10 points for Austin College, who saw six players score seven points or more.  Reserve guard Libby Kellum pitched in with seven points and seven rebounds off the bench.

The key to the game was the defensive efficiency of the 'Roos, who held Sul Ross to 31% shooting for the game as well as forcing 23 turnovers.  The leading scorers for Sul Ross only had eight points apiece, with Evelyn Chavez and Dominique Torres tying for the game-high.

Austin College started off sluggishly, turning the ball over on their first four possessions and going down 9-2 early.  However, once they began to break the Sul Ross press, they went on a 27-11 run to close out the half.

The 'Roos then built their lead in the second half, using easy fast break baskets from turnovers and plenty of inside shots to extend their lead.  By the 15:00 mark in the 2nd half, Austin College had a 16-point lead, which they would never relinquish
